In the lease, did you have a clause stating that you have the right to report your experiences with him to the credit bureaus? If you did not, then it can’t be done. You do and you can expect a lawsuit.
If you did, then in order to report information to consumer credit reports, you have to subscribe to each bureaus credit verification services. These services can be very costly.
If you own a lot of rental properties and you wish to begin checking credit references on your tenants than you need to:
1. Amend your lease contract to let your tenants know that you may pull their credit reports in connection to their leasing your property.
2. You need to subscribe to one or more of the credit bureaus’ credit verification services.
A sales agent from each of these companies will be able to discuss with you subscription fees and their services.
